Morphological Changes of the Cochlear Duct and Effect of Aspirin in Furosemide Ototoxicity of Guinea Pigs
Kim Choo-Lyong

Kim Byung-Woo
Abstract
The ototoxicity of furosemide was studied in guinea pigs using light and electron microscope. High dose (100 §·/§¸ body weight) of this drug caused edematous changes of the stria vascularis, deformities of sensory hairs and even degenerative changes of the outer hair cells. The most striking finding was that the drug mainly affected the intermediate cell layer of the stria vascularis, but no change was seen in the basal cell layer. In aspirin pretreated cases (20 §·/§¸ body weight), the changes were less than only furosemide injectected group.
